The Eight Grades of Recycled 48×40 Wooden Pallets

Recycled pallets provide the best value for one-way shipping. With PNW Pallet quality pallet recycling, we offer many grades of recycled 48×40 pallets to ensure you receive exactly what you need.

Recycled pallets are made from previously used pallet lumber, meaning that some recycled pallets and their parts will be of varying quality. Pallet quality is determined by a range of factors, from its aesthetic appeal to the number of times the wood has been repaired. The higher the grade of pallet, the less it has been repaired and the newer it looks.

To ensure the recycled pallets you purchase meet your performance and aesthetic requirements, PNW Pallet rigorously checks, grades and verifies all of our recycled pallets. In the industry there are typically eight grades of recycled pallets split between “A” and “B” categories. “A” Grade Pallets
The first five recycled pallet grades fall into our “A” Grade category. These “A” grade pallets are of the highest quality with a minimum of aesthetic and lumber damage.

High “A” Grade pallets, grades 1-3, have no stringer damage. These pallets typically have seven top and five bottom deckboards with specific lead board sizes.

“B” Grade pallets have stringer damage and have been repaired with a corrugated metal plate and/or an attached companion stringer (plug or runner) alongside the damaged one. The average “B” Grade reconditioned pallet generally has multiple stringer repairs and may not have consistent deckboard configurations.

These eight grades cover all recycled pallets, from those that look brand new to those that are best suited for a short, one-way shipment. Pallet grades are not actually standardized in the industry. PNW Pallet’s system is more detailed than many other methods in order to give our clients more control over the exact type of product they receive.
